Winter at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market

Early season tomatoes, strawberries and asparagus are here; winter is giving way to spring. I wanted to share some of the beautiful flowers and produce that have been in our market this year — and apologize to my friends east of California. Here’s hoping winter soon takes its leave along with the incessant cold and snow.

Wishing you a good week ahead!

Really? This is just outright torture. Your photos are sensational and the colors are so luminescent.

What a difference a few hundred miles makes! Our local FM are still weighed down by winter, Brussels Sprouts, cabbages, cold storage apples, lots of citrus. The lettuces, peppers and summer squash are grown in large greenhouses. Your vibrant photos are a reminder that spring is on the way, if only we can be patient!

You’re killing me with these photos, you know. Excuse me now, please, as I leash the girls for their morning routine of bounding up many boring, punishing flights of steps in a fluorescently lit (complete with humming) stairwell. Even the guys in “Shawshank Redemption” could go outside to their exercise yard for some fresh air. Sigh.

Sigh:( So sorry that this winter has been so harsh. Here’s hoping spring comes soon and the girls get back to their neighborhood walking routine. Thank you so much for the kind words, too! xo

I love how you deconstruct the market for me. The stalls are staged so exquisitely, colors built upon colors, everywhere I look I’m overwhelmed by the magnitude and beauty of what is being grown around us. I love to pause and review what you’ve focused in on as there is always such appreciation for the subject apparent in your compositions. Keep it up please! xo
